A Fancy Dinner Party for the Fossil Jewelry Team

These table centerpieces for a dinner party are from the archives too. They may be some of the favorite arrangements I've made. Pink can be cliche when used alone, but when combined with pops of orange and lime green, it instantly becomes modern and fresh.
White freesia has a sweet peppery fragrance, but the pink freesia I used in these arrangements has a much sweeter smell.

FRIENDLY TIP: Freesia is great for wedding bouquets and table arrangements because of its subtley sweet fragrance. It's used a lot in perfumes - I swear I smell it in Viktor & Rolf's Flowerbomb! Freesia comes in purple too....it does it all.
This particular dinner party was for the Fossil jewerly team so they added some pieces right before setting the table. A bit of glitz never hurt anyone.

A Rustic Dining Room Table Centerpiece at The Finks

This is a project from 2010, but I thought it was worth sharing. My friend Jennifer has a great eye for interiors - last year she painted her formal dining room a deep rich purple, so we quickly concocted a way to "dress the dining room table" with some of our recent finds from a huge antique show called Round Top - a wide French Bread Board and old purple-tinted wine bottles.

Check out the lighting from the window....makes the multi-colored ranunculas and wildflowers look like they are sprouting out of the wine bottles.

Yes, I went back to Good 2 Go Tacos...

...and the tacos were as tasty as they look on Cassie's face. Check out the new outdoor seating - long church pews!

The Swine Bleu taco...delish...braised pork and fresh blue cheese slaw. HELLO.

We dropped off a small "welcome to the new location" arrangement in an old spaghetti sauce jar to our favorite people, co-owners Colleen and Jeana.

And dog friendly!

They all dined happily on fried chicken and the fixin's...

Quick shout out to my water bobble - it saved the day again. It filters as you drinks! I was a thirsty girl...
Bridesmaid bouquets doing double-duty at the reception...
More Instagram photo filters... Instagram obsession....

Gerber Daisies are such a happy flower...
Since the dinner was all SOUTHERN COMFORT food served family style, we used two square vases stacked on top of each other to create more height on the tables.

Amie and Jansen's Festive Red Flowers

Adorable flower girl and ring bearer ...

More from Amie and Jansen's wedding

The santuary at Wilshire Baptist church is BEAUTIFUL. I love the colors in this wedding party picture above.
I especially love this filter on my new-found favorite app - Instagram. Makes this look like an old photo I found in a book.

Amie and Jansen Get Hitched

Amie and Jansen asked for flowers with rich red tones for their wedding on February 19th. Upon meeting Amie for the first time, I knew the flowers needed to unique and spunky. We used pops of fuschia and lime green to achieve a lush tropical feel that was uber-romantic. See above the "before" picture...
And here is after! The contrast of the bold red bridal bouquet against Amie's beautiful wedding dress was stunning.
And we decided on elegant white and green bouquets to contrast against the deep red bridesmaid dresses.

Friendly tip - bridesmaid bouquets can be used again as table centerpieces - I plopped these flowers into vases awaiting with water in the reception hall. Easy!

Happy Belated Birthday Scarlett

So now I am addicted to Instagram...check out these cool variations of this pic. The wire basket hugs a glass vase inside (BONUS it has a little handle) and looks like a found item, but it's from Central Market!
I like this setting the best - makes this all-white arrangement for my friend and co-worker Scarlett (affectionately nicknamed Snarlett by yours truly) look edgy and cool.

And voila...Black and White is instantly chic.

Happy Valentine's Day to all the cheesy love birds

My roommate Kelly may have the most romantic boyfriend....ever. Her boyfriend Ramsey was kind enough to give me an experiment in PINK when he asked me to make a Valentine's Day arrangement for her. As you may have guessed, PINK is Kelly's favorite color.

I added shades of purple to create more dimension, and what turned out was an asymmetrical arrangement of HOT PINK roses, purple hydrangeas, and pink cala lilies.
My friend Esther came over that day for a walk around White Rock Lake and showed me a new app - Instagram! It turned a typical arrangement into a really cool photo with an edgy border. LOVE.
I used the leftover pink roses and cala lilies to create a round arrangement in a simple square vase (to keep it modern) for our dining room table. Happy Valentine's Day to Cassie and me!
And...congrats to me...we are now all caught up in real time on the blog!

Happy Birthday Lindsay

Lindsay likes orange tulips so I combined them with orange ranunculas and green hydrangea for her birthday...it was a bit of a hot mess at first. We'll call it an experiment.

Good 2 Go Tacos

This post has NOTHING do with flowers...only good tacos.

My favorite taco joint, Good 2 Go Tacos, has moved into a new location on Peavy and Garland Rd.

GO THERE NOW.

Oh there is a out-of-this-world coffee bar inside - they bring you your drink while you're waiting to order tacos! Oh and YES there will be a line on the weekend. But the yummy coffee helps.

You can park your bike outside...

Who doesn't like a pig postal stamp for a logo? LOVE IT.

The Centerpieces..."are those tree branches?"

To bring the color black in as an anchor in the centerpieces, we added black river rocks to the bottom of the flower vases. It was a nice organic touch - and the best part - it was easy to execute.

The curly willow tips added height and gave the centerpieces more dimension. It was like using mini tree branches - they surprised me - I loved using them!

These black and white "Reserved" signs were sweet and tied all the wedding colors together. This photo hopefully captures that romantic atmosphere I'm trying to describe in words - the candle light was simply beautiful.

To add variety, we decorated half of the tables with tiered round vases with the same black river rocks at the base, and filled them with water at different heights so the round white candles looked like they were floating. This additional candle light really helped the Loft glow.

More from Kevin and Jessica's Wedding

The sign-in table in front of the chapel at Watermark Community Church set the tone - the happy green and white flowers sat next to adorable photos of the happy couple. Their joy is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of them.

The cake - a masterpiece from the legendary baker Laura Smith - tied back to the black and white theme carried throughout the wedding and reception. We added green hydrangea and white freesia on top, as well as green and white rose petal at the base to bring all the wedding colors together. Oh by the way, the cake was delicious...all tiers of it.

The light from the candles created a really elegant feel. The black and white table clothes and chair covers, in conjunction with the white and green tones in the flowers transformed the Loft into a truly sophisticated, romantic space.
Big THANK YOU goes to Penick and Burba for being the best co-captains a girl could have.

Kevin and Jessica...Popeye and Olive Oyl

It started with an oversized test bouquet that needed some tweaking - green and white flowers cinched with a simple black ribbon. Lori (the bride who started it all) referred me to Jessica for her elegant December wedding and I admit it was a large undertaking - but a very exciting opportunity for me as well. Jessica and Kevin are super fun - one Halloween they dressed up as Popeye and Olive Oyl...that says it all.

A Fink Thanksgiving Feast

My friend and co-worker Jennifer has always been a huge cheerleader of my flower hobby. For Thanksgiving, she sanctioned a large autumnal arrangement in one of her favorite galvinized buckets for a giant feast at her house. YES...she has an eye for amazing antiques and cooks like Julia Child for a very grateful husband and works full-time and raises the two most adorable kids ever. She does it all...

Taylor and Mark Week's Annual Holiday Party

Taylor and Mark host a throwdown of a Holiday party each year in their drop-dead gorgeous house...and 2010 was no exception. We are actually neighbors in the Lakewood area which made this project even more fun. Taylor is also one of those awesome new Mommies who does it all, including putting her trust in me to create some festive arrangements with the color purple, which I eagerly combined with jewel-tone colors.

The banana leaves came in handy again...

Voila! Using giant purple hydrangea made the arrangements look really full and rich. The spikey greenery added a spunky touch.

Here comes the Bride...

We don't call her a Red Hot Chili Pepper for no reason...

Veronica looked stunning holding a free-spirited green and white bouquet of hydrangea, freesia (it's very fragrant!), roses, wild flowers and eucalyptus branches.

Her bridesmaids wore beautiful deep eggplant dresses so it was a no-brainer to arrange bouquets from different shades of purple, with accents of white and green of course.

No one cany deny that Veronica stole the show, but I have to give a shout out to her grandma! She had the best smile and sweetest demeanor - it was a joy getting to know both Bill and Veronica's entire families.

Note the elegant white freesia used in her corsage - created by none other than Mrs. Shellie Bland, flower extraordinaire. Shellie, along with the best friends in the world, Amanda, Rachel, Sarah, Becca, Burba, and Kelly were the most amazing team a girl could ever ask for...to many more weddings to come!

Hopefully one day our own? :)
